“Equipping the Deaf to Advance to Gospel”

God has called me into an amazing ministry with the Deaf. For the past 30 years I have been ministering to the Deaf on Long Island at the Island Christian Church. Approximately 20 years ago I attended a workshop in N.C. at the DOOR site. It was there I realized my vision, specifically reaching the deaf community with the Gospel of Christ, teaching and equipping the deaf to reach their full potential in their Christian walk, and empowering them to go into their own culture to reach the Deaf for Christ. At that workshop I was given a notebook with 32 Bible stories in chronological order. With that one tool I went home and began teaching the Deaf God’s Word………..

It has been an amazing four months here at DOOR-Africa/India. I no longer have one tool, but a whole tool box full of tools. I am eager to bring these tools back to the States so that the Deaf in America will have the same resources as do the Deaf in Africa and India. (Imagine that!) Specifically, having God’s Word translated into their heart Language, is the key, together with the 2×2 teams, and Deaf believers fellowships, just to mention a few. The Gospel is spreading like wildfire across Africa and India. The Deaf are being used by God to fulfill His Great Commission. They are becoming the leaders and teachers God has created them for. I want to see this in America. It is my desire to see mature Deaf Christians answer the call, going forth to spread the Gospel.

In the last ten years, thousands of Deaf people have come to Christ.

Studying Kenyan & Indian Sign Language

Studying  Kenyan & Indian Sign Language

I truly thank God for Jisha and all of the Deaf here on the DOOR Campus who patiently taught me KSL & ISL. I needed to learn these languages so I could understand and learn the things I needed to know to bring back to my missions in the US. Jisha is from Kerala, India and is here with her husband doing Bible translation editing and involved with the CIT (consultant in training) program. I will bring back the Bible translations in KSL (Kenyan Sign Language) to use as study tools with the Deaf in the States. The American Sign Language translations have not been completed as yet. PRAY they will be completed so the Deaf in the US will have a translation of Scripture in their heart language.

There are approximately 70 million Deaf in the world today. Less than 2% have any kind of relationship with Jesus Christ.

IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND THE WORD OF GOD HOW CAN IT TRANSFORM YOU?

There are 400-700 signed languages in the world today, most of them yet to be discovered. Only one of them has a translation of only the New Testament: American Sign Language which is used in the US, parts of Canada and Puerto Rico. And this translation was completed in 2004, just six years ago.
